Thirsty Thursday

Living in Washington offers any resident endless opportunities to experience any type of art through museums, exhibitions, etc.  With each art-encounter comes some level of educational enlightenment, cultural awareness, entertainment and the list goes on.  However, there’s another approach to art that is rising in popularity, and you don’t have to be in our Nation’s Capitol to enjoy this form. In fact, you can be anywhere you can find a talented Barista!

Today, I present Latte Art!

Its not a popular talent, but when you find a Barista that posses this skill, you’ll want to keep them in your life as your personal Artist-in-Residence.

Latte Art is merely the result of skillfully pouring milk into a shot of espresso or tea and creating unique patterns on the top of the latte.  You’ll find that some artist will keep their designs simple.  In particular, the Rosettas a popular design that looks like a flower.   More experienced artist will create messages, sunbursts, animals, and sometimes complete scenes!

On occasion, disaster will strike. Here’s what happened when I ordered a Green Tea Latte, and the Barista took abstract art to a new level!

I'll sip with pleasure! @cooloutrageous Cheers! on Twitpic

I’m not sure what that was supposed to be. Maybe you should caption that picture for me. Oh, maybe it was Slimer from Ghostbusters! Remember him? I digress…

As we revive Thirsty Thursday, take the opportunity to enculturate yourself in the art of latte! Get creative and work with your Barista to find really cool designs and have an outrageous time commissioning your art!

Here’s a quick, simple video to show you how its done.
